Recycling and repurposing for a sustainable future

Advancing the circular economy

AES is supporting the circular economy by recycling materials and repurposing valuable resources. Through innovative partnerships and sustainable practices, we are minimizing our environmental impact while supporting resilient domestic supply chains, energy security and job creation.

Solar panel recycling

AES is working with partners to responsibly recycle and repurpose damaged or retired solar panels. Through this approach, we can recover and keep valuable materials like glass, silicon, and aluminum, in circulation. This initiative helps reduce landfill waste and contributes to energy security, job creation, and a more resilient supply chain.

Two workers in safety gear and helmets inspect a stack of solar panels on a pallet in a sunny outdoor area. Other pallets with wrapped panels are visible in the background, along with a shipping container and a brick wall.

95% of recycled materials recovered

Recycling technology extracts high-value materials from retired or damaged solar panels.

Waste management

AES is working to reduce waste across the lifecycle of our projects by exploring ways to reuse and transform byproducts or construction waste, such as gypsum and broken solar panels, into usable materials. These initiatives create sustainable reuse pathways for energy materials while minimizing waste disposal.
