We're committed to a safe and responsible transition to clean energy that benefits every Virginian. As a long-term owner-operator with our global headquarters in the Commonwealth, we know what it means to develop energy solutions in the places where we both work and live. Virginia has set the goal to produce 100 percent of its electricity from carbon-free sources by the year 2050, and we are prepared to help the state achieve this goal. In doing so, we aim to utilize our projects to invest in the communities where we operate.
Currently, we have four projects under development, hundreds of local workers, strong community partnerships and the momentum to shift energy sourcing in the state. Our work in Virginia began in 1981, and it excites us to be bringing innovative clean energy solutions to the state we call home.

Together with Microsoft
When Microsoft needed a partner to meet its commitment to transform its operations and create a cleaner cloud, they put their trust in us. Through the partnership, Microsoft purchased 315 MWac of solar energy from our Pleinmont I and II projects in Virginia, representing the single largest corporate purchase of solar energy in the United States at the time. The projects are part of the 485 MWac Spotsylvania Solar Energy Center and enabled Microsoft to make significant progress toward its goal of reaching 60 percent in 2020.

We believe in being a good neighbor, ensuring responsible renewable energy development that benefits both the environment and local communities. That’s why we partner with communities to see how we can best work together to support sustainable social and economic development.
Landowners
We present landowners with new opportunities to capitalize on the value of their land while retaining ownership throughout the project life cycle. For many, this is a welcome complement to current land use and an opportunity to diversify their land investment while hedging against volatile commodity prices. For others, our projects offer an income stream and land-use option where none otherwise existed.
Our teams and landowners work together, in partnership, from the beginning stages of site discussions, through permitting, construction, and operation. The landowner relationship with AES begins early, is built on trust and open communication and ensures the partnership is beneficial for everyone.
Impact we're making
The stable tax revenue generated by each of our projects fund county services including education, emergency response, and local infrastructure. On top of this, we have worked hard to bring community benefits through employee volunteerism, donations and meaningful partnerships.
