Together with Air Products

AES and Air Products are jointly investing $4 billion to build, own and operate the largest green hydrogen production facility in the United States. This mega-scale renewable power to hydrogen project includes approximately 1.4 GW of new wind and solar power generation, along with electrolyzer capacity capable of producing over 200 metric tons per day (MT/D) of green hydrogen to serve the growing demand for zero-carbon intensity fuels for the mobility market as well as other industrial markets.

Together with Google

Google announced a world-leading goal to operate on 100% carbon-free energy by 2030 and set this goal knowing that a 24/7 carbon-free energy solution didn’t yet exist. AES and Google partnered together to develop a world-leading 24/7 carbon-free energy solution where we will supply Google’s data centers with time-matched carbon-free energy through a custom mix of solar, wind, hydropower and battery energy storage resources.

Together with Microsoft

70% of the world’s internet traffic passes through data centers located in Virginia, and together with Microsoft, we’re making the internet greener. We partnered together to provide Microsoft with around-the-clock renewable energy to power its Virginia-based data centers.

Together with Anheuser-Busch

Anheuser-Busch produces 3 million cases of beverages per year using solar electricity as a result of our partnership in co-creating onsite generation solutions.

Chile

Together with the Government of Chile, we’re adding 1,500 MWh of energy storage by 2023 while retiring 1 GW of coal by 2025, reducing the country’s dependence on conventional generation at the same time. With innovative and competitive energy solutions, we plan to increase renewables in the country by 173% by 2025.

Panama

AES Panama, together with the Technological University in Colón, designed the “Preparandome con Energia” (“Preparing with Energy”) program for local youth to develop technical skills and be hired by local suppliers in the province. Since the program launched, more than 50% of the participants successfully joined the local workforce.

United States

In 2022, we retired 206 MW of coal generation and signed agreements for 431 MW of new solar, wind and energy storage projects in Hawaii. In advance of retirement, worked with stakeholders to develop a responsible transition plan.

Chile

AES Andes is seeking to convert a coal-fired power plant into a 560 MW emissions-free storage system using molten solar salts a pioneering initiative worldwide that seeks an alternative for the conversion of thermoelectric plants. The project also involves training the workers at the current power plant in the new technology to preserve employment opportunities.

Together with Kauai Island Utility Cooperative (KIUC) and the U.S. Navy

Energy reliability and resiliency are critical for KIUC and the U.S. Navy. Together, we co-created the largest microgrid within the Department of Defense through a first-of-its-kind solar-plus-storage microgrid, marking the first time a 24/7 renewable energy solution is being used to ensure 24/7 mission readiness while also supporting the local island grid.

Together with Southern California Edison (SCE)

For the first time in history, the 100 MW AES Alamitos Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) that serves SCE customers demonstrated that battery energy storage systems could meet large local capacity needs and launched the global energy storage industry as we know it today.

AES El Salvador and Blink

Through AES El Salvador’s utility business, we’re bringing electromobility to the country by increasing EV adoption and expanding distribution networks and charging stations throughout El Salvador.
